Atlanta EMDR Intensives for trauma therapy that goes beyond talking

EMDR intensives are designed to help you process unresolved experiences that continue to show up in your thoughts, reactions, and body.

Working with a certified EMDR therapist, this approach focuses on helping your brain reprocess what feels stuck so it no longer carries the same emotional charge.

This is trauma therapy that supports real healing, not just understanding.

Unprocessed Trauma

Past experiences still show up in how you feel and react. EMDR helps reduce their emotional intensity so they have less impact.

Automatic Emotional and Body Responses

Your responses feel immediate and hard to control. EMDR helps reduce their intensity.

Insight Without Relief

You’ve made sense of it, but it hasn’t changed how it feels. EMDR helps your brain process the experience so it has less emotional impact.

A Different Approach to Trauma Treatment

Weekly therapy works for many people. For others, it can feel slow, interrupted, or hard to stay connected to from session to session.

EMDR intensives create space to stay with the work long enough for something to actually shift. Instead of 50–60 minute sessions, EMDR intensives are offered in 3-hour or 6-hour blocks, allowing for more sustained trauma processing.

Instead of starting and stopping each week, you’re able to focus on an experience, pattern, or set of memories with more continuity.

This format supports deeper processing while still being paced in a way your nervous system can tolerate.

Extended time allows you to stay with the work instead of stopping just as it begins to open up.

How EMDR Intensives Work

Phase 1:

Preparation

  • Determine if an EMDR intensive is the right fit
  • Clarify your goals for trauma therapy
  • Ensure you have the stability and support needed for processing

Phase 2:

EMDR Intensive Sessions

  • Extended EMDR sessions with a certified EMDR therapist
  • Target and process specific experiences that feel stuck
  • Reduce the emotional intensity and reactivity tied to those experiences

Phase 3:

Follow-Up & Integration

  • Review what shifted during the intensive
  • Support integration into daily life
  • Identify whether additional EMDR sessions or support are needed

Choose the format that fits your needs.

EMDR intensives are offered in two formats. The right fit depends on the complexity of your treatment goals and what your nervous system needs to move through them. Together we’ll determine the level of support needed for the work.

6 Hours

Best for one treatment theme, more layered experiences, or work that needs more time to process

    • What you’re carrying is more complex or layered
    • Benefits from processing with rest in between (when scheduled over multiple days)

Common Questions About EMDR Intensives

Is an EMDR intensive a shortcut?

No. It is the same level of clinical care in a different format. The work is concentrated, not rushed.

What Is an EMDR Intensive?

An EMDR intensive is a short-term treatment format that includes preparatory sessions followed by an extended block of trauma processing over a compressed period of time.

This model can be especially helpful for people who:

  • have demanding schedules and limited weekly availability
  • want more continuity than weekly sessions allow
  • feel emotionally activated by the stop-and-start rhythm of traditional therapy
  • are ready to focus on one specific issue, trigger, memory, or treatment theme
  • want a structured specialty service alongside their ongoing therapy

The intensive format allows for extended reprocessing without having to stop right as the work begins to deepen.

Who EMDR Intensives May Be For?

EMDR intensives may be a fit for adults who are:

  • navigating trauma-related distress, specific triggers, or unresolved past experiences
  • able to engage in emotional awareness and stabilization work
  • open to a structured screening and preparation process
  • currently working with their own therapist or open to coordinated care when appropriate
  • looking for a focused, self-pay treatment format outside of weekly therapy

Prior EMDR experience can be helpful, but it is not the only factor that determines fit.

Who May Need a Different Approach?

You may need a different approach if:

  • It’s difficult to stay connected to your emotions during challenging moments
  • Coping and grounding strategies are still being developed
  • Your system becomes easily overwhelmed or shuts down
  • You need more time to build stability before deeper trauma work

In these cases, weekly trauma therapy or additional preparation can help build the foundation needed before moving into an intensive format.

A different approach doesn’t mean the work isn’t possible. It means the structure should match what your system can safely handle.

What to Know Before You Schedule

Are results guaranteed?

This work is designed to support meaningful progress, but trauma therapy is deeply personal and each person responds differently, so specific results can’t be guaranteed.

How does payment work?

  • 50% deposit to reserve your intensive
  • Remaining 50% due 48 hours prior to intensive.
  • HSA/FSA cards may be accepted

Virtual or in person?

EMDR intensives are available virtually throughout Georgia and in person in Atlanta.

A Note About Fit

EMDR intensives are not the right structure for every person at every point in their healing.

That is not a bad thing.

Some people need more stabilization first. Some need ongoing weekly therapy. Some need time to build coping skills, strengthen support, or understand their emotional patterns before doing deeper trauma processing.

If this is not the right fit right now, we will be honest about that. The goal is not to sell you into a service. The goal is to help you choose care that matches your needs, your capacity, and your nervous system.
