Therapist for Second Generation Adults in Georgia
Have you ever felt like you don’t quite fit anywhere?
Maybe you’ve been called “different” or “quirky,” or you feel pressure to hide parts of yourself just to be accepted.
You might struggle with feeling too much or not enough—too emotional, too unconventional, too outside of the mold that others expect you to fit into.
For second-generation immigrants, this experience can be even more layered. You may feel torn between honoring your cultural roots and embracing a more individual path, constantly shape-shifting to meet the expectations of different spaces. At home, you might be “too Western,” and outside, you don’t fully feel like you belong either.
No matter where this tension comes from—family expectations, social norms, or personal self-doubt—the weight of it can be exhausting.
What if I told you that You’re Not Strange, You’re Just YOU
And you can be happy and fulfilled being just that
Finding YOU in a World That Expects You to Fit In
Figuring out who you are—outside of other people’s expectations—can feel overwhelming. You may struggle with:
- Feeling guilty for wanting something different than what your family or peers expect.
- Struggling to set boundaries because you fear conflict or disappointing others.
- Feeling emotionally exhausted from constantly adapting to different spaces.
- Experiencing career or relationship struggles due to insecurity in your self-worth.
- Hiding parts of yourself in order to be accepted by others.
What if one day you wake up and *poof*, you know who you are because you live, breathe, and embody your true authentic self. Your self-esteem increased, confidence in your self-expression and identity skyrocketed, you’re not doubting your capabilities, you’re less worried about those

Hi! I’m Britney
Hi! I’m Britney
As a mental health counselor in training enrolled in the University of Georgia’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, I help adults manage anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I understand that the struggles we face aren’t always just personal—they are shaped by cultural expectations, family dynamics, and the unspoken rules of the spaces we exist in. For second-generation immigrants and those who have always felt “different,” identity can feel even more complicated, caught between honoring external expectations and defining a path that feels authentic.

Facing the Rational and Irrational with Care
Many of our struggles with identity, relationships, and self-worth don’t start with us—they are deeply rooted in the messages we received growing up. Psychodynamic therapy helps uncover these deeper layers, exploring how past experiences and cultural conditioning shape how you see yourself today. This therapeutic approach helps you:
- Identify and process the fears that hold you back.
- Understand how your past experiences and relationships shape your present struggles.
- Validate the emotions you’ve been taught to suppress, making space for healing.
Acknowledging these thoughts and feelings—rational or irrational—is not about creating conflict, but about freeing yourself from the weight of carrying them alone.
Take the First Step Toward Living Your Truth
You don’t have to navigate this journey alone. Therapy provides the space, tools, and support you need to step into the life you deserve—one of confidence, peace, and authenticity.
